Content
Introduction to Germany and German-speaking areas - pupils learn about the main German-speaking countries, geographical location, some famous people, historical events, traditions etc
Personal information - name, age, family, where we live, physical descriptions, pets
School life - German school system, school equipment, subjects including likes and dislikes, reasons we like / dislike a subject, time (12 hour clock)
Food and drink - what we eat and drink for each meal, ordering food in a cafe or restaurant, what we will or would like to eat, shopping for food
Hobbies and interests - what we do, when and with whom. Comparing what we usually do with what we did last weekend
Television - what is on when, preferences, types of film
House and home - what type of house we live in, rooms and furniture, basic information about the local area, weather
Home town - what there is in our town or village, what we do not have, where things are in relation to other things

Content
Reinforcement of Year 7 topics plus:
Clothes -what we wear for different occasions, describing outfits
Healthy lifestyle - healthy eating, exercise, advice on how to be healthy, what we have done in the past, illnesses
Going out - arranging to meet (time, place), accepting an invitation, excuses for not going, modes of transport, travelling by bus and by train
Daily routine and helping at home - comparing weekday and weekend routine, what we do or can do to help at home, pocket money

Content
Reinforcement of Year 7 and 8 topics plus:
Relationships - how we get on with family members / friends and why, what we are allowed to do or must do at home, family celebrations
Work - part time jobs and pocket money, job choices for the future
A school visit - preparations for a trip, describing a school trip in the past, accepting and refusing offers politely
Holidays and travel - where we go / went on holiday, means of transport, tourist attractions, directions, account of a past holiday
Environmental issues - what is good / bad about our town (facilities and environmentally), wider environmental issues eg recycling, what we could do in the future for the planet
Celebrations and traditions - traditional celebrations in Germany, Switzerland and Austria
